Prospecting is for agency new business. Instead of cold outreach on guesswork, you find companies with weak AI visibility, show them where the gap is, and pitch from that. It is part of Agency Plus: in agency mode, open Outreach > Prospecting.
The page has three tabs: Search (find companies), Lists (your saved prospects, their reports, pitches and cadences) and Leads (the people your own lead widget brought in).
Search for companies by sector and location
Save the ones worth pitching to a list
Generate a report for each, one at a time or a whole list at once
Write a pitch from what the report found
Start the cadence: the pitch goes out as the first email, and the follow-ups after it
Convert the prospect to a client when you win it, or mark it as lost
On the Search tab, enter a Sector (for example "dental clinics") and a City / region, pick a country and a language, and click Find prospects. The search looks up local businesses on Google Maps and on the web, and adds contacts where it can find them: email, phone, LinkedIn, rating and address. Results show as a list or on a map.
A search costs 5 credits. A search that finds nothing is refunded.
Select the companies you want and click Save to list, into an existing list or a new one. Saving costs nothing.
You can also bring prospects in with Import CSV (up to 5 MB): you map your columns (company name is required; website, contact, phone, LinkedIn and even a pitch you already wrote are optional), and a new list is made from the file.
Generate report runs an AI visibility report for the prospect. You choose the number of prompts (5 by default); prospect reports always run on ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Mode (AI Overviews), so a report costs 1 credit per prompt. A prospect needs a website before it can have a report.
Generate reports on a list does the same for every selected prospect. Each report creates a brand of type prospect in your account. Prospect brands stay out of your brand switcher, your agency home and your rollups, and they do not use up your plan's brands: Agency Plus has a separate allowance of 20,000 prospect brands.
On a prospect whose report is ready, click Write pitch
Click Generate with AI. The draft is written from that prospect's report: its score, the prompts that miss it and the competitors that came up instead
Edit it as you like and click Save pitch
Each generation costs 1 credit (so does Regenerate). Saving it is free. The pitch becomes the first email of the list's follow-up cadence for that prospect; without one, the cadence's default first email is used.
Every list has a Follow-up cadence (Edit cadence): the sequence of emails a prospect receives once you start it. Emails go out from a mailbox you connect in Integrations, under Reach customers. Click Start cadence on one prospect, or start it for several at once. View engagement shows what was sent, opened and replied to.
Outreach emails need your sender details with a physical business address (Sender settings), as CAN-SPAM requires.
Automation decides, for the whole account, how much of the flow runs on its own:
Off (manual): you generate everything yourself
Draft for review: reports and pitch drafts are made for you; you review and send
Full auto (send): also starts the cadence once the pitch is ready
With either of the last two, Run automation on a list generates reports for its eligible prospects (a website and no report yet, or a finished report still missing its pitch), up to 50 per run, and the pitch is written as each report finishes. Reports and pitches cost the same credits as when you run them by hand.
Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
New | Saved, no report yet |
Generating | Report in progress |
Ready | Report ready to pitch |
Contacted | First pitch sent |
Following up | Cadence in progress |
Replied | The prospect responded |
Won | Converted to a client |
Lost | No longer pursuing |
Contacted, Following up and Replied move on their own as the cadence runs. You set the last step: Convert to client marks the prospect as won and turns its brand into a normal client brand (it then counts toward your brands), and Mark as lost stops any cadence still running. A report that fails sends the prospect back to New, so it can run again.
Delete prospect removes it with its report, its pitch and its brand, and stops its cadence.
Prospecting finds companies. The lead widget does the opposite: a form on your own site offers a free AI visibility report, and the people who fill it in come to you. They land in the Leads tab, and in a list of their own, Website leads. You can start a cadence on a lead by hand, but the automation never runs on that list.
See Lead widget to set it up and Leads and webhooks to work the leads.
No. It is part of Agency Plus.
Partly. Your lists, imports and stages work on a trial. Company search, the Leads tab, reports, AI pitches, cadences and the automation start when your subscription does.
The account owner and team members with access to every brand. Editors can change things; viewers can read. Team members limited to some brands and client seats do not see it.
Backlink Outreach contacts the sites AI platforms cite, to get your brand mentioned there. Prospecting finds and pitches new clients for your agency.
