Prompts Tab: Ranked vs Missed

Understand which prompts your brand ranks for, which ones you're missing, and how to turn missed opportunities into wins.

The Prompts tab is where you get granular. Instead of just seeing an overall score, you see exactly which questions AI platforms answer with your brand—and which ones they don't.

Understanding the Two Lists

✅ Ranked Prompts

These are prompts where your brand appeared in the AI response:

Column

What it shows

Prompt

The question that was asked

Rank

Your position (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

Platform

Which AI platform (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI, Gemini, Claude, Grok)

Category

Topic category (if categorized)

❌ Missed Prompts

These are prompts where your brand did NOT appear:

Why This Matters

Ranked = What's Working

Your ranked prompts tell you:

  • Which topics AI associates with your brand

  • What content is getting indexed and recognized

  • Where your authority is established

Missed = Your Opportunity

Your missed prompts reveal:

  • Gaps in your content coverage

  • Topics where competitors have stronger presence

  • Opportunities for new content

Reading the Prompts Table

The Ranked Section

Each row shows a prompt where you appeared. Click to expand and see:

  1. Full AI Response — What the AI actually said

  2. Your Position — Where you ranked in the list

  3. Competitors — Who else was mentioned

  4. Sources/Citations — What the AI cited

The Missed Section

Each row shows a prompt where you didn't appear. Click to see:

  1. Full AI Response — What the AI recommended instead

  2. Competitors Mentioned — Who's ranking instead of you

  3. Source URLs — What content the AI used

Taking Action on Missed Prompts

Step 1: Identify Patterns

Pattern

Meaning

Action

All about one topic

Gap in content coverage

Create content cluster

All on one platform

Platform-specific issue

Optimize for that platform

All comparison queries

Not seen as alternative

Competitive positioning

All "how to" queries

Not seen as educator

Create how-to guides

Step 2: Analyze Competitors

For each missed prompt, ask:

  • Who IS appearing?

  • What content are they being cited from?

  • What makes their content better?

Step 3: Create Improvement Plan

For high-priority missed prompts:

  1. Research the topic — What does a great answer look like?

  2. Check your content — Do you have relevant content?

  3. Improve or create — Update existing or create new content

  4. Build authority — Get backlinks and citations

  5. Re-track — Run reports to measure improvement

Prioritizing Which Prompts to Work On

Not all missed prompts are equal. Prioritize by:

🎯 Business Value

High

Prompts that drive purchases or leads

Medium

Prompts that build awareness

Lower

Using Filters Effectively

Filter by Category

If you've categorized prompts, filter to focus:

  • "Products" — See product-related rankings

  • "Services" — See service-related rankings

  • "Comparisons" — See head-to-head rankings

Filter by Platform

  • See where each platform ranks you: Strong on ChatGPT but weak on Perplexity?

  • That tells you where to focus optimization

Filter by Date

  • Compare rankings over time: Did that new blog post help?

  • Are competitors catching up?

Best Practices

✅ Do This

  1. Review weekly — Check for new missed opportunities

  2. Track improvements — Note when you move from missed to ranked

  3. Study the responses — Read what AI is actually saying

  4. Learn from competitors — Why are they ranking instead?

❌ Don't Do This

  1. Ignore missed prompts — They're your roadmap to improvement

  2. Try to rank for everything — Focus on valuable prompts

  3. Expect instant results — AI knowledge updates gradually

  4. Forget context — A #5 rank on a competitive prompt is great

From Missed to Ranked: A Case Study

Before

Prompt: "Best email marketing tools for small business"

  • Status: Missed

  • Competitors appearing: Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Sendinblue

  • Our content: Brief mention in a general marketing guide

Action Taken

  1. Created comprehensive guide: "Email Marketing for Small Business: Complete Guide"

  2. Added comparison tables with competitors

  3. Got featured in 3 industry roundups

  4. Updated existing blog posts to link to new guide

After (6 weeks later)

  • Status: Ranked #4

  • Appearing on: ChatGPT, Perplexity

  • Still missing on: Google AI (working on it)

Key Takeaway

Moving from missed to ranked takes time and focused effort, but it's achievable with the right strategy.
