Interpreting your Visibility score

How to read your Visibility score in context: against competitors, by AI platform and category, by prompt, and over time, and what to do at each stage.

Your Visibility score is the share of AI answers that named your brand: "HubSpot is named in 18% of AI answers". How it's counted is in Understanding your visibility score. This article is about what to make of the number.

Read it against something

A score on its own says little. Read it against:

  • Your competitors. On Visibility > Competitors, share of voice shows how often AI named you compared with the brands you compete with. 15% with every competitor under 10% is a good position; 40% with a rival at 70% is not

  • Your own trend. A Scheduled Report runs the same prompts again and again, so the line on Trends shows whether you're climbing

  • The kind of prompt. Prompts that name your brand should almost always get answers that name you. Broad category prompts ("best CRM for small business") are harder, and that's where the gains are

The app labels scores Strong (50% or more), Moderate (25% to under 50%) and Emerging (under 25%). Many brands start in single digits: that is a starting point, not a verdict.

Break it down

Where

What to look for

By AI platform (Overview)

Strong on one, weak on another usually means that platform reads different pages. Filter Sources and Fan-outs to the weak one

By category (Overview, Prompts)

Low categories point at topics your site and your mentions don't cover

By prompt (Prompts)

The prompts that miss you, and the brands named instead

By position (Prompts, By position view)

Named first or named fifth. Being named is the start; being named first is the goal

Read the answers, not just the number

Open the answers behind a prompt that misses you. They tell you:

  • Who is named instead, and in what words

  • Which pages are cited, and whether you're on any of them

  • What the AI platform searched (Fan-outs) before answering

Then How to fix your results on the report turns that into a list of fixes, and Tasks keeps track of them.

Expect some movement

AI answers vary from one run to the next, even for the same prompt. A few points up or down between runs is normal. Judge the trend over several runs, and look for prompts that switch from not named to named and stay there.

What to do at each stage

Emerging (under 25%)

  • Make sure your site states plainly what you do, for whom, where and at what price

  • Get listed and reviewed on the sites your category's answers cite

  • Check Brand Audit for facts AI platforms get wrong about you

Moderate (25% to under 50%)

  • Work through the prompts that miss you, category by category

  • Write the comparison and answer pages those prompts need

  • Pitch the pages AI cites that mention competitors but not you

Strong (50% or more)

  • Move from named to named first

  • Keep your pages current; watch for competitors gaining

  • Extend to adjacent prompts, AI platforms and markets
