Your Visibility Score is the single most important metric in Rank Prompt. It tells you what percentage of time your brand appears when users ask AI platforms questions relevant to your business.
Simple definition: The percentage of AI responses where your brand was mentioned.
Visibility Score = (Responses where brand appeared / Total responses) × 100
Example:
You tracked 20 prompts across 3 AI platforms = 60 total responses
Your brand appeared in 42 of those responses
Visibility Score = 42/60 = 70%
The visibility score appears throughout Rank Prompt:
Location | What it shows |
AI Visibility Dashboard | Overall score across selected reports |
Report Details | Score for that specific report |
Scheduled Report History | Score for each run |
Trends Tab | Score changes over time |
When you select "All" platforms, we combine results:
Prompt: "Best CRM software"
ChatGPT: Brand appears at #2
Perplexity: Brand appears at #1
Google AI: Brand not mentioned
Result: 2/3 appearances = 66.7% for this prompt
Each platform counts equally, appearing on ChatGPT doesn't count more than Perplexity.
Your overall score weights all prompts equally:
Products category: 10 prompts, 8 appearances = 80%
Services category: 5 prompts, 2 appearances = 40%
Industry category: 5 prompts, 3 appearances = 60%
Overall: (8+2+3)/(10+5+5) = 13/20 = 65%
Important: More prompts in a category = more weight on your overall score.
It depends on your industry and competition level:
(Marketing software, e-commerce, finance)
Score | Rating |
60%+ | Excellent |
40-60% | Good |
20-40% | Average |
Below 20% | Needs work |
(Local services, specialized B2B)
Score | Rating |
80%+ | Excellent |
60-80% | Good |
40-60% | Average |
Below 40% | Needs work |
Just starting out? Focus on trending upward rather than hitting specific numbers. A 10-point improvement is significant progress.
The Platform Performance chart breaks down your score by AI platform:
Platform | Knowledge Source | Update Frequency |
ChatGPT | Training data + browsing | Varies by version |
Perplexity | Real-time web search | Very current |
Google AI | Web index + AI | Current |
You might see different scores because:
Your content ranks well in Google but isn't in ChatGPT's training data
Perplexity finds fresh content faster
ChatGPT has older information about your industry
Strong on | Weak on | Strategy |
ChatGPT | Perplexity | Improve SEO, get more backlinks |
Perplexity | ChatGPT | Create comprehensive pillar content |
Google AI | Both | Focus on structured data and authority |

Common reasons for improvement:
Published new authoritative content
Gained high-quality backlinks
Got press coverage or citations
Won awards or recognition
Competitors declined

Common reasons for decline:
Competitors published better content
AI models updated with new information
Lost important backlinks
Content became outdated
Added harder/more competitive prompts

A stable score means:
You're maintaining position (good if score is high)
Competition is also stable
No major changes in your space
Update existing content — Make sure your best pages are current
Add brand mentions — Include your brand name naturally in content
Improve internal linking — Help AI understand your topic clusters
Get cited — Reach out for backlinks from authoritative sites
Analyze missed prompts — What topics don't you rank for?
Study competitors — What are ranking competitors doing differently?
Create pillar content — Comprehensive guides that become go-to resources
Optimize for featured snippets — These often become AI responses
Consistent publishing — Regular content updates signal authority
Build brand authority — PR, speaking, partnerships
Industry involvement — Participate in conversations AI platforms index
Monitor and adjust — Use Trends tab to measure progress
Understanding the difference:
Metric | What it means |
Visibility Score | % of responses where you appear (anywhere) |
Rank | Your position when you do appear (1st, 2nd, etc.) |
You could have:
High score, variable rank — You appear often but not always first
Low score, high rank — You rarely appear, but when you do, you're #1
Ideal: High score + High rank — Appearing often at top positions
Day-to-day fluctuations are normal. Focus on:
Weekly trends
Month-over-month improvement
Response to specific actions
A 50% score means different things:
On highly competitive prompts = very good
On branded prompts = needs improvement
For a new product = expected, room to grow
When comparing periods:
Use the same prompts
Same date ranges
Same platforms
Account for any new prompts added
Concept | Key Point |
