Understanding locations

Track your AI visibility in several countries, cities and languages from one Scheduled Report: how locations work, how to add, copy and edit them, and what they cost.

A Scheduled Report is a group of locations. Instead of creating a separate Scheduled Report for each market, you add up to 20 locations to one, all running at the same frequency. Every run leaves one report per location, never one mixed report.

Some settings windows call a location a "location config". It is the same thing.

What is a location?

A location is a market inside a Scheduled Report. It sets:

  • Country: where the prompts are asked from (for example United States)

  • City: optional (for example New York). Leave it empty to track the whole country

  • Language: the language of the prompts and the answers (for example English or Spanish)

  • AI platforms: any of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity and Google AI Mode (AI Overviews). Up to 3 cost 1 credit per prompt, 4 to 6 cost 2.

  • Prompts: the prompts it tracks

A Scheduled Report can't hold the same country, city and language twice.

Why use several locations?

The examples below assume up to 3 AI platforms, so each prompt costs 1 credit.

Track different markets

A hotel chain tracking 3 cities:

Scheduled Report: "Weekly US Cities"
├── Location: New York (10 prompts)
├── Location: Los Angeles (10 prompts)
└── Location: Miami (10 prompts)

Total: 30 credits per run, 3 reports per run

Compare languages

A software company tracking English and Spanish:

Scheduled Report: "Weekly Multi-Language"
├── Location: United States, English (15 prompts)
└── Location: United States, Spanish (15 prompts)

Total: 30 credits per run

Compare national and local answers

A pizza chain tracking the country and one city:

Scheduled Report: "Weekly Pizza"
├── Location: United States, whole country (10 prompts)
└── Location: Chicago, United States (10 prompts)

Total: 20 credits per run

Adding a location

When you create the Scheduled Report

The creation form lets you add several locations at once. Start from a report and every location gets its prompts; start empty and the locations start paused until you add prompts. See Creating your first Scheduled Report.

From a report's page

On a completed report, click Schedule, then Add to an existing one. The report's market is added to the Scheduled Report you pick, with the report's prompts.

From the Locations tab

  1. Open the Scheduled Report and go to the Locations tab

  2. Click Add location

  3. Fill in the details:

Field

Required

The country the prompts are asked from

Language

Yes

The language of the prompts and answers

Specific location

No

A city, state or region. Leave it empty for the whole country

AI platforms

Where its prompts come from (see below)

  1. Click Create & link

The footer shows the credits per run for the new location and the total for the whole Scheduled Report once it's added.

Where a new location's prompts come from

Option

What it does

Copy another location of this Scheduled Report

Copies that location's active prompts as they are. Edit them on the new location's page if they name a place.

Copy a report's prompts

Copies the prompts of a completed report you pick.

Pick from Search Console queries

Shown when Google Search Console is connected. Click Get suggestions for your country, then pick queries: rising ones show how much their impressions grew, the others how many impressions they get. Each one you pick becomes a prompt.

None, I'll add them later

The location starts paused and its page opens so you can add prompts.

Note: A location with no prompts is paused and won't run until you add prompts and resume it.

The Locations tab

Open a Scheduled Report and go to Locations to see every market in one table:

Column

What it shows

Name

The location's name (a paused one is marked)

Location

Its city, or its country for a whole-country location

Prompts

How many prompts it tracks

Visibility

Its Visibility score on the latest run

Change

How that moved against the run before

Trend

Its visibility across recent runs

Last run / Next run

When it last ran and when it runs next

Language, Platforms and Avg visibility (its average across all runs) are extra columns: turn them on from Choose columns.

Below the table, Locations side by side charts the visibility of every location in each run. Select rows in the table to compare only those locations.

On the Scheduled Reports list, click the line under a row's AI platforms and flags to jump straight to this tab.

Location actions

Each row has action buttons:

Button

Owners and editors

Delete

Remove the location

The brand owner

Pause or delete?

  • Pause: the location stops running but keeps its settings, prompts and history

  • Delete: removes the location, its prompts and every report its runs produced. It can't be undone.

Tip: Pause seasonal markets instead of deleting them.

Duplicating a location

Duplicate a location to set up a similar market fast. In the Duplicate location config window you pick the Scheduled Report that gets the copy, including the one it came from.

  • A city location: the country stays the same and you enter the New location. City names in the prompts are replaced with the new city, and you see which prompts change before you confirm.

  • A country location: pick the new country and language. If a prompt mentions the old country by its adjective (for example "Argentine"), you're warned so you can review those prompts after the copy is created.

If the new country's main language differs from the one you picked, you get a reminder to translate your prompts. Click Duplicate to create the copy.

A location's page

Click any location to open its page. At the top:

Tile

What it shows

Prompts

Active prompts out of the total

Avg visibility

Its average across all runs

Avg Rank

Your brand's average position when named (lower is better)

Runs

Completed runs

Below, Add new prompt lets owners and editors type a prompt and pick or create its category. The prompts are grouped by category, each with its latest rank and how its visibility moved against the previous run, its status, and buttons to Edit it or Pause and Activate it.

The header holds Duplicate, Settings and, for the brand owner, Delete location.

To see a prompt's visibility run by run, open the Scheduled Report's Prompts tab and click the prompt.

Location settings

Settings opens Location config settings: the name, Country, Specific location, Language and AI platforms, with the credits per prompt and per run. If the city isn't a location Rank Prompt recognizes, a Non-standard location format warning suggests a standard one you can switch to with one click.

Under Run manually, Run now runs this location alone (the Scheduled Report has to be switched on, and the location needs prompts).

How credits add up

Each active location costs its prompts times the credits per prompt, on every run:

Credits per run = sum, over the active locations, of (prompts × credits per prompt)

Example (up to 3 AI platforms):

Location

Prompts

Status

Credits

New York

10

Active

10

Los Angeles

10

Active

10

Chicago

5

Paused

0

Total per run: 20 credits. Chicago is paused, so it isn't counted.

Best practices

Group by how often you need data

Put locations that need the same frequency in one Scheduled Report:

  • Good: a daily Scheduled Report for New York and London, a weekly one for every other market

  • Not ideal: one Scheduled Report that mixes markets you need daily with markets you need monthly

Use the same prompts to compare markets

When you add a location, copying another location's prompts gives you a like-for-like comparison.

Name locations clearly

  • Good: "US West Coast (English)", "Madrid, Spain (Spanish)"

  • Not ideal: "Config 1", "Test"

Check non-standard cities

If a location's city shows a warning in the Locations tab, it may not be a location the AI platforms recognize. Open its Settings and switch to the suggested location.

Common setups

Retail: several stores

Track visibility around each store: Los Angeles, Dallas and New Jersey.

Local services: several cities

Track each service area with city prompts, for example "HVAC repair in Phoenix", "HVAC repair in Tucson" and "HVAC repair in Scottsdale".

International brand: several countries

United States (English), United Kingdom (English), Germany (German), France (French).

Bilingual market

Miami in English and Miami in Spanish.

Troubleshooting

"This Scheduled Report already tracks that country, city and language"

The Scheduled Report already has a location for that market. Change the city or language, or use the existing location.

A location didn't run

Check that:

  1. The location is active (not paused)

  2. The Scheduled Report is switched on

  3. The location has prompts

  4. You have enough credits
