When your site already has a page for a question, improving it usually beats writing a second page that competes with it. Optimize reads the page as it is live, checks it against what Google ranks for its keyword and against the article quality checks, and fixes what holds it back.
Open Create content (the Create content button on Content > Articles, or Optimize a page in the command palette) and switch the top toggle to Optimize. On Visibility > Prompts, Improve visibility on a prompt opens it there already, on your page AI cites for that prompt.
Section | What you set |
|---|---|
Page | One of your site's pages, the ones Google sends most clicks to first (with clicks and impressions from Search Console, or sessions from Google Analytics, when connected), or any URL on your site pasted below the list |
Level | How far it goes (below) |
Target | A prompt AI answers without you, and the keywords the page should win; empty, the page's title leads |
Sources | Pages or PDFs to read and cite, for example the pages AI cites for that prompt |
Language, Tone, Restrictions, AI tools | As for a new article; each starts from the brand's defaults |
Only pages on your brand's own website can be optimized.
Subtopics the top results all cover and the page does not.
People also ask questions the page never answers.
Length well short of what ranks.
Phrases your brand never says, from Brand voice.
The quality checks the page fails today: an opening without the keyword or a fact, no table, no question heading, no list.
Level | What changes |
|---|---|
Conservative | Only what an issue asks for, plus new sections. Every other sentence stays as it was. |
Balanced | Any section may be rewritten to answer better; its heading and the order of sections stay. |
Full | The page is written again from scratch, with the live page as a source it must use. |
A rewritten section that would lose a link it had, or more than a third of its words, is refused and the original kept.
The optimized page opens in the editor. Differences shows each change against the live page: what was there and what is there now, with the score before and after. A change stays unless you Restore the original (or Remove it for an added section); restoring edits the article and saves like any other edit. Switch Differences off to keep editing as usual.
Publish as usual (see Publishing your content). On a connected site that holds the page, the first publish updates that post in place instead of creating a new one. A destination that does not hold the page is refused, so your site never gets a second copy of it at a new address: copy the article (Copy, as formatted text or HTML), paste it into the page where it is live, and click Save URL under Where did you publish it?, which already holds the page's address. Rank Prompt then tracks the page at that address.
An optimization costs the credits of one article, charged when it starts and refunded if it fails; a page that cannot be read fails before anything is charged. It needs the Starter plan or higher, like generating an article.
