# AI content generation overview

How Rank Prompt writes articles that answer the prompts where AI platforms miss your brand: where to start, what an article includes, what it costs and which plan you need.

Rank Prompt writes articles for your brand to answer the prompts where AI platforms do not name you yet. Each article is researched, grounded in your brand facts and written in your brand voice. You review it in the editor and publish it to your site, or let Autopilot write and publish on a schedule.

## Where to find it

Open **Content** in the sidebar:

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Item</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it holds</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Articles</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Every article you have drafted, generated or published</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Opportunities</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What to write next, ranked by what it can win you in AI answers and search (editors)</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Knowledge base</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The facts and documents every article is grounded in</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Media</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The images your articles use, uploaded or generated</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Autopilot</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Articles written and published on a schedule</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Performance</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Search and traffic numbers for the sites you publish to</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Content calendar</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Your articles by date: planned, in progress, scheduled and published</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Create content

Every article starts in the **Create content** window. Open it with **Create** on **Content > Articles**, with **New article** in the command palette (Ctrl K) or the **N A** shortcut, or from any page that offers to write: a task, a competitor, an opportunity, a day in the **Content calendar** or an article the agent proposes (**Adjust and run** on its confirmation card). The window opens over the page you are on, filled in with what that page knew.

The left side lists the sections, each with what it is set to now; on a phone they stack and open one at a time:

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Section</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What you set</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Prompt</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A prompt AI answers without you, to write the article that wins it back, and the <strong>Topic</strong></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Format</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>One of 13 formats, from <strong>Blog post / guide</strong> to <strong>Landing page</strong> and <strong>Product page</strong>, with its options. See <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="linktype-link link" data-linktype="link" href="https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/51-article-formats.md">Article formats</a></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Length</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Auto (sized to what ranks), Short, Standard, Long or an exact word count</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Audience</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Who it is written for, in a few words</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Language</strong> and <strong>Tone</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The brand default, or another one for this article only</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Sources</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Up to 10 pages or PDFs to read and cite, and <strong>Only my sources</strong> to switch off web search. With a prompt picked, <strong>Pages AI cites for this prompt</strong> adds the pages the engines cite in one click</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Title and keywords</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A <strong>Title</strong> (kept as written), <strong>Target keywords</strong> and <strong>Planned for</strong>, the day it should go live</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Knowledge</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Auto</strong> uses the closest passages of your <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="linktype-link link" data-linktype="link" href="https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/119-knowledge-base.md">knowledge base</a>, <strong>Pick items</strong> limits it to the ones you choose, <strong>Off</strong> leaves it out</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Phrases to avoid</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Words and phrases the article must not use, on top of the brand's banned phrases</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>AI tools</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Web search, Google News, internal links, reading your site, images, screenshots, reference pages and the knowledge base, each <strong>Off</strong>, <strong>AI decides</strong> or <strong>Always</strong></p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Every section starts from the brand's defaults, set in [Brand voice](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/55-brand-voice.md). **Save as draft** keeps the article without writing it. **Run** writes it now for the credits shown on the button; when something is missing, hovering it says what.

When your site already has a page for the question, switch the window's top toggle to **Optimize** to improve that page instead of writing a new one. See [Optimize an existing page](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/120-optimize-an-existing-page.md).

When fewer than half of your brand facts are filled in, the window suggests **Research** first: it researches your brand facts right there, for the credits shown on the button, and your draft stays as it is. Articles written with richer facts hallucinate less.

### Ideas to start from

**Content > Opportunities** lists topics worth an article, each with a **Score** from 0 to 100 (demand, where you lose today, how winnable it is and how close it is to what your site already ranks for). Each one says where the idea comes from:

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Source</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Meaning</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Missed prompt</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>AI answers this without mentioning you</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Competitor gap</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A competitor is cited in your place across prompts</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Keyword gap</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A competitor ranks in Google for it and you do not</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Search Console</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Google already shows you for it, on page two or without the click</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Tracked keyword</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>You track it and no page of yours ranks</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Report content gap</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Your recent reports name it as a topic you need to cover</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Below the source, each row shows the article format Rank Prompt would write. Search the list, or narrow it with the format filter (**All types**) and the source filter (**All sources**); the source filter lives in the page address, so a link opens the list on one source. When the brand measures several places, **Asked in** says where the idea's prompts were asked (**Every place** when it holds everywhere) and the **Locations** filter keeps the ideas of the cities and places you pick.

Click the create button on a row to open **Create content** filled in from the opportunity. Select several rows and click **Plan** to queue up to 30 articles at once: each is written as its own job, charged on its own at the plan's price (9 credits each from 5 articles, 8 from 20) and refunded if it fails. Turn on **Plan the publish dates** to give each one a date; it prefills the schedule when you publish, and nothing goes live without your review.

**Refresh** recomputes the list from data you already have, for free. **Run keyword gap** buys Google data about your competitors and costs credits (see [Understanding credits](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/16-understanding-credits.md)). **Connect Search Console** adds the cheapest articles to win.

## While it writes

Before any model writes, Rank Prompt reads what Google ranks for your keyword in your market: up to eight top pages, their headings, length and dates, the People also ask questions and the subtopics most of them cover. The outline covers what the top pages all cover and goes deeper where they are thin, and the editor keeps that record under **What Google ranks** in the **Details** tab.

The editor shows each step: **Researching your topic**, **Structuring the outline**, **Writing the draft**, **Polishing the copy** and **Creating images**. It usually takes 4 to 5 minutes, and you can leave the page while it runs. You get an **Articles ready** notification when it is done.

## What every article includes

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Part</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it is</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Body</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Structured for AI answers: a fact up top, question headings, lists and tables where the format calls for them</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Title, meta description, focus keyword, tags, URL slug</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Filled in, ready to edit in the editor's <strong>Details</strong> tab</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Internal links</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Three to five links to your own pages closest in meaning to the topic, in the article's language. Rank Prompt keeps an index of your site (its sitemap, your published articles and the posts of a connected WordPress) that refreshes every week; a brand added today gets its first pages within minutes, and a link to a page your site does not have is removed</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Images</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>1 or 2 depending on the format: a real image where the writer finds one (a product page's own image, a Google Business Profile photo or a page screenshot), a generated one otherwise</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Sources</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Every source it links to was opened while writing: links that no longer load are unlinked, and each figure next to a link is looked up on that page</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Structured data</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The JSON-LD that publishing adds</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Quality</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A score from 0 to 100 of how likely AI platforms are to cite it: green from 85, amber from 65</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

## The Articles list

**Content > Articles** is a table of every article for the brand: **Title**, **Type**, **Status**, **Publishing** (one pill per destination: live, scheduled, draft, waiting for merge or failed), **Quality**, **AI impact** and **Created**, plus **Review** (the date its fastest-ageing fact is due for a check) and **Market** (the city or country it was written for) in the column chooser. Search by title, filter by type and status, or export the table.

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Status</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Meaning</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Draft</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Saved but not written yet</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Generating</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Being written now</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Needs review</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Written and waiting for you in the editor</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Published</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Live on a destination; <strong>Partially published</strong> when one or more destinations failed</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Failed</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The run failed, or stopped responding for 20 minutes; hover the badge for the reason. The credits held for it come back, and <strong>Retry generation</strong> runs it again</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

**AI impact** shows, for a published article, how often AI answers cited its URL before and after publishing, and on how many of its source prompts an AI platform now names you. Read it four weeks after publishing.

Each row's menu has **Set reminder** (published articles), **Duplicate** (editors) and **Delete** (the brand owner). Deleting a published article also takes its posts down from each connected site that allows it.

## Credits and AI budget

- An article costs **10 credits**, charged to the brand owner; in a content plan or an Autopilot month of 5 or more, 9 each, and 8 from 20. A retry after a failure charges it again; the failed run's credits have already come back.

- AI edits of text and images in the editor spend your AI budget, not credits. Generating a new image for an article from a prompt costs 1 credit.

- The outline preview, content plans and Autopilot are priced in [Understanding credits](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/16-understanding-credits.md).

## Client review (Agency Plus)

On a paid Agency Plus subscription you can send an article to a client before it goes live:

- In the editor's **More actions** menu, **Share for review** creates a private review link. The client needs no Rank Prompt account.

- The client reads the draft, comments on the whole article or on selected text, and clicks **Approve** or **Request changes** (a change request needs a comment first).

- Review statuses: **Pending review**, **Awaiting client**, **Changes requested**, **Approved**. Publishing the article marks its review approved.

- In agency mode, **Content > Reviews** is the inbox of every article a client is reviewing or asked to change, across brands, where you can reshare a link to extend it before it expires. **Content > Content** lists every article across your client brands.

## Plan requirements

## Best practices

- **Start with opportunities.** They come from prompts where AI platforms answer without you, so each article has a reason to exist.

- **Write a specific topic.** "How HubSpot compares to Salesforce for a 10-person sales team, on price and setup time" gives the writer more than "CRM comparison".

- **Fill in your brand facts and knowledge base first.** The writer can only cite what it knows about you, and every fact it takes from your knowledge base is checked against the passage it came from. See [Knowledge base](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/119-knowledge-base.md).

- **Review before you publish.** Check the figures the **Sources** check flags and read the article once in full.
