# Visibility trends over time

Follow your reports run after run on Visibility > Trends: which markets and prompts climb, which fall, who overtakes whom, and whether your work is paying off.

**Visibility > Trends** turns the runs you select into a story: rank and visibility over time. Instead of one snapshot, you see how each market, each prompt and each AI platform moves from run to run.

## What you need

- Reports to follow: the runs of one or more **Scheduled Reports** (see [What is a Scheduled Report?](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/26-what-is-a-scheduled-report.md)), one-off results, or both

- At least **2 completed runs**: the race and the winners and losers compare runs, so they need two

With no Scheduled Report yet, the page says **Your score isn't a trend yet** and offers **Schedule**, which opens the form for a new Scheduled Report right there. Each run costs the same credits as a one-off report.

## Opening Trends

1. Go to **Visibility > Trends** in the sidebar

2. In the **Reports in view** filter, pick what to follow: one or more reports, some of their markets, or **Latest**

Every report you select counts, and their markets fill the **Locations** filter. Each run of a report is one run, all its markets together.

### The filters

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Filter</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it does</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Reports in view</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The reports to read, and which of their markets</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Locations</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>All locations</strong>, or the markets you pick</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Prompt categories</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>All categories</strong>, or the ones you pick</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Intents</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>All intents</strong>, or any of <strong>Awareness</strong>, <strong>Consideration</strong>, <strong>Decision</strong> and <strong>Other</strong>, read from each prompt's wording</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>AI platforms</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>All platforms</strong>, or the ones you pick</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Date range</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Only the answers given in that window, in your time zone</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

**Views** saves the filters under a name. A report's own page has the same charts on its **Trends** tab and the prompt table on its **Prompts** tab.

* * *

## What the page shows

### The numbers at the top

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Stat</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it shows</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Total runs</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The runs under the filters</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Prompts tracked</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The prompts under the filters</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Avg visibility</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The answers that named your brand over every answer in those runs, so a run with more answers weighs more</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

### Visibility trends by market

One line per market, one point per run, on a 0 to 100% scale. Hover a point for its date and value. Only the days with data are drawn: a day without a run is skipped, not shown as a drop.

- **Rising**: your work is paying off there

- **Falling**: something changed, investigate that market

-   **Flat**: stable

- **Jumpy**: AI answers vary; wait for more runs before you judge

A marker stands on every run where prompts, AI platforms or places were added or removed; hover it for **What changed in this run**. Read a step at a marker as that change, not as a gain or a loss. See [Analyzing schedule performance](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/29-analyzing-schedule-performance.md).

### Visibility race

Your share of voice per run against the four competitors named most. Switch to **Rank** to see who overtakes whom: 1 is the highest share of voice in that run.

### Platform performance

Each AI platform's rate of answers that name you, with your average and best rank when they do. It follows the filters, so pick a location to find the AI platform that holds that market back.

### Winners & losers

How far each prompt's visibility moved: its average over the newer half of the selected runs against the older half (with two runs, the latest against the one before), from the biggest gain to the biggest loss.

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Column</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it shows</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Prompt</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The prompt</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Gain or loss</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>A bar for the move</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Before</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Visibility over the older half of the runs, or on the first run in the window</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Now</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Visibility over the newer half of the runs, or on the last run in the window</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Shift</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Now minus before, in visibility points</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Pick a **Window** (**All**, or a number of days) to compare the first and last run inside it. Prompts that did not move are hidden by default; the eye button **Unchanged** shows them again.

### Prompts by run

A grid with one row per prompt and one column per run. **Shade by** switches between **Visibility** (the share of each run's answers that named your brand) and **Brand position** (your average place in each run's answers; darker is closer to first).

### Prompt performance

Every tracked prompt with its numbers:

<table style="min-width: 50px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Column</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>What it shows</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Prompt</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>The prompt</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Category</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Its category</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Intent</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Awareness, Consideration, Decision or Other</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Runs</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>How many runs asked it</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>(trend line)</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Its visibility run by run</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Latest</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Visibility on the latest run</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Avg</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Answers that named your brand over every answer to the prompt in the runs in view</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p><strong>Trend</strong></p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Visibility points of the newer half of the runs against the older half, each weighted by its answers</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Sort by **Trend** to see the biggest drops or gains first.

* * *

## A prompt's run history

Click a prompt in **Winners & losers**, **Prompts by run** or **Prompt performance** to open **Prompt run history**:

- **Visibility over time**: the prompt's visibility on each run

- **Run history**: each run with its date, visibility, your rank, and what each AI platform did (your place, named without a place, not found, or an error)

- **View** on a run opens the answer itself

Use it to see exactly when a prompt improved or dropped, and to line that up with what you changed.

* * *

## Using Trends well

### Every week

1. The overall direction of each location

2. The prompts that dropped (**Winners & losers**)

3. The prompts that improved: what worked?

### Every month

1. Compare this month with the last

2. Find the prompts that keep winning or keep losing

3.  Adjust your content plan

### After publishing content

1.  Note the date

2. Give the AI platforms two or three weeks

3. Check whether the related prompts moved

When a prompt drops, open its answers to see who is named instead, and check **Visibility > Fan-outs** for what the AI platforms searched before answering.

* * *

## Comparing markets

With several markets, **Visibility trends by market** draws one line each:

- **All lines rising**: your content works everywhere

- **One line lagging**: that market may need local content

- **All lines falling**: a broader issue with your visibility

* * *

## Reading the patterns

### Rising

**What it means:** you're gaining visibility.

**Possible causes:** better content, new mentions on the sites AI cites, competitors dropping out, the AI platforms answering differently.

**Action:** keep going, and write down what worked.

### Falling

**What it means:** you're losing visibility.

**Possible causes:** competitors improving, your content going out of date, the AI platforms answering differently, lost mentions.

**Action:** open the prompts that dropped, update the content, check **Visibility > Competitors**.

### Flat

**What it means:** stable performance. With a high score, hold your position; with a low one, change your approach.

### Jumpy

**What it means:** answers vary from run to run, or there aren't enough runs yet.

**Action:** wait for more runs and read the overall direction, not single runs.

* * *

## Lining up changes with your work

Keep a log of what you do:

<table style="min-width: 75px;"><colgroup><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"><col style="min-width: 25px;"></colgroup><tbody><tr><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Date</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Action</p></th><th colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Prompts it should move</p></th></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>March 15</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Published a CRM buyer's guide</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>"Best CRM" prompts</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>March 22</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Mentioned in a TechCrunch article</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>All of them</p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>April 1</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Updated the pricing page</p></td><td colspan="1" rowspan="1"><p>Comparison prompts</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Then check on Trends:

-   Did those prompts move?

- How long did it take?

- Was it worth the effort?

* * *

## From the agent, the API and the MCP

Ask the agent "which prompts are trending down?" and it reads the same Trends for you, with the competitor race when you ask who is gaining. Developers read it with `GET /v1/brands/{brand_id}/visibility/trends`, and an MCP client such as Claude Code with `rankprompt_get_visibility_trends`: every run, each prompt's trend, the runs whose prompts or AI platforms changed, and the race. See [Developer API](https://help.rankprompt.com/en/articles/96-developer-api.md).

* * *

## Exporting

**Visibility trends by market** and **Prompt performance** have an export button, and both open full screen. Use the exports for client reports, team presentations and your own analysis. For a branded document, **Client reports** has a **Schedule overview** template.

* * *

## Best practices

### Do

1. **Review weekly**: catch drops early

2. **Judge over 4 runs or more**: one run is noise

3. **Log your actions**: so you can tie them to results

4. **Read the direction, not single runs**: answers vary

### Don't

1. **Panic at one bad run**: wait for a pattern

2. **Ignore steady declines**: act on them

3. **Read different Scheduled Reports as if they were one**: they track different prompts and markets, so narrow by **Locations** when you select several

4. **Expect overnight results**: AI answers change gradually
